In 2004, PALCO once again earned certification under SFI, with the lead auditor praising PALCO for "...doing a remarkable job of practicing sustainable forestry...."

Also in 2004, PALCO invested $30 million in high-tech sawmill and planer facilities that enhance worker safety, increase productivity, and reduce waste. An example of PALCO's commitment to "working for the future," the new facilities ensure that PALCO remains competitive and continues to provide good jobs and economic support for the local community.

As part of a major renovation, the historic Scotia Museum was upgraded in 2004 with three-dimensional displays, additional artifacts, videos, and interactive technology to give visitors a personal tour of how forestry management and Scotia have progressed over the last 140 years.
