Key Certification Organizations
PALCO encourages all forest landowners to become certified. The Sustainable Forestry InitiativeŽ (SFIsm) program primarily certifies large industrial forest landowners, while the American Tree Farm System (ATFS) provides smaller non industrial landowners with a no cost process, recognition, and the means to certify their forestlands.
Certification and certification organizations such as SFI and ATFS provide landowners with access to markets and gives individual landowners a way to voice their support for legislation important to their future. For example, ATFS is supporting proposed tax relief legislation that will benefit family farm reforestation efforts. The ATFP also provides landowners with technical assistance, mentoring, and support to ensure they are managing family forests sustainably.
