Sustaining the communities in which we operate is a responsibility and a commitment we take very seriously. That is particularly true with
Scotia, which is one of the nation's last "company towns." PALCO may have built the town of Scotia, but the people of Scotia built PALCO, and we recognize and value their contribution.
Our major contribution to the people of Scotia and surrounding communities is our ability to provide hundreds of family-wage jobs. Many of our employees live in Rio Dell, Fortuna, and Eureka, and are active members of those communities. By running our Company efficiently and maintaining those jobs, we help to sustain the communities in which our employees and suppliers live. In addition, we buy from local suppliers whenever possible, and constantly look for ways to attract new businesses to our community.
Our commitment to the people of Scotia extends even further. As part of that commitment, we provide a medical and dental facility for PALCO employees, lease the fully-supported grade school to the state for $1 per year, and subsidize the local daycare center. In addition, we provide college scholarships to graduating seniors of every PALCO employee.
In these efforts, as in everything we do, we are working for the future: the future of our Company, our community, our forests, and our people.
