Scientific Monitoring

We demonstrate our environmental commitment every day through our scientific monitoring programs. At times, PALCO has up to 40 environmental scientists on staff, more than any timber company its size in the nation. Those experts ensure that we carefully monitor and protect the 17 endangered and threatened species included in our Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP).

But our environmental efforts go far beyond what is required by law. We constantly monitor and study the water quality in our streams to ensure that our harvest practices and road construction/maintenance limit the amount of sediment in our streams.

For example, our science team is a diverse group of scientists and technicians working together to develop an understanding of the wide variety of flora and fauna that are found on our land. Through a complex monitoring regime that matches the complexity of the ecosystem we manage, the science team has formed an intimate relationship with the land that reflects their dedication to the PALCO legacy.

And every day, our biologists, botanists, geologists, and hydrologists work hand-in-hand with foresters, loggers, and support crews to ensure that employees in every level of the Company have an appreciation of and commitment to environmental protection.
