The Sustainable Forestry Initiative
The Sustainable Forestry InitiativeŽ (SFIŽ) is a national forest conservation program that promotes sustainable forestry using internationally recognized standards for sustainable forest management.
Based on the premise that responsible environmental practices and sound business practices are complementary, SFI was developed by an independent board of landowners, professional foresters, conservationists, and scientists as a standard for sustainably managed forestlands.
Currently, more than 136 million acres of forestland in North America are enrolled in the SFI program, making it among the world's largest sustainable forestry programs. Each day, participants in the SFI program plant 1.7 million trees. Since the SFI program began in 1995, participants have planted almost five billion trees.
Our certification is based on rigorous audits by independent experts using internationally-agreed upon sustainable forestry standards and overseen by an independent board.
